I provide psychotherapy for adolescents and adults. I accept Blue Cross Blue Shield and Cigna insurance. I also provide a sliding-scale to help make counseling affordable to people without insurance.
My approach to therapy is Integrative. "Integrative" has several meanings. It means that I assist you in integrating your emotions, thoughts, behaviors so that they are more effective and useful, and you feel more at ease and at peace.
Also, integration helps resolve inner conflicts. Whether the conflict is about a life or work decision, mixed feelings about a relationship, or is related to critical thoughts, it is possible to move through these conflicts, find solutions and feel more accepting and kind towards yourself.
"Integrative" also means that my perspective is informed by several theories and practices: psychodynamic, developmental, Mindfulness, and EMDR. My approach is client-centered and collaborative, and paced to your comfort level.
Adolescents and Young Adults
I've worked extensively with adolescents ages 16 to 19. Adolescents sometimes prefer talk therapy. However, I can integrate art methods and other forms of creative self expression, which some young people prefer.
My assessment involves some history taking and talking with the young person, during which we explore the approach to counseling that will be most effective and acceptable to the young person.
Adults
A sigificant focus of my private practice are adults, including young adults in their twenties and thirties. People are often seeking, or exploring the possibility of counseling because they are having a difficulty with a personal relationship or with finding satisfaction in others areas of their life such as work and social connections. These experiences can be filtered through a lens of depression, anger, anxiety or isolation. My approach is Integrative Counseling, drawing on my background and training in psychotherapy, mindfulness, and EMDR, when appropriate.
