Amy Elliott, Licensed Professional Counselor

I provide psychotherapy for children, adolescents and adults.  I accept Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance and provide a cost sliding-scale to help make counseling affordable to people without insurance.

My orientation is Integrative Counseling. "Integrative" means that I assist you in integrating your feelings, thoughts, behavior and physical sensations.

"Integrative" also means that my perspective is informed by several theories and practices: psychodynamic, developmental, Mindfulness, and EMDR. My approach is client-centered.

I work with children age 6 to 12.  I began working with children in 1986 using different tyepes of play including Sand Play, Play therapy and Drama Therapy.

I integrate cognitive-behavior therapy with play therapy.  I work with children individually and in groups, and work in partnership with parents.

  • I also have specialized training and experience working with children, teens and adults on the Autism Spectrum.   Many children on the autism spectrum have a co-occuring diagnosis of anxiety, depression  and/or ADHD.  A diagnosis of Autism often becomes the focus of services,  leaving these co-occurring challenges  unaddressed.
  • Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy integrated with Play Therapy.

I've worked extensively with adolescents.  Adolescents sometimes prefer talk therapy, due to the normal self-concious tendency at this developmental stage. However, I can integrate  art methods of self expression, which some young people prefer. Many young people like to learn to relax and to regulate their emotions through yoga and forms of Mindfulness practice.

My assessment involves some history taking and talking with the young person, during which we explore the approach to counseling that will be most effective and acceptable to the young person.

A sigificant focus of my private practice are adults, including young adults in their twenties and thirties. People are often seeking, or exploring the possibility of counseling because they are having a difficulty with a personal relationship or with finding satisfaction in others areas of their life such as work and social connections. These experiences can be filtered through a lens of depression, anger, anxiety or isolation. My approach is Integrative Counseling, drawing on my background and training in psychotherapy, mindfulness, and EMDR, when appropriate.
